Overview
Wearabouts is a clothing identification app. This policy explains what data the app collects, how that data is used, and your rights over it.
Data the app collects
- Account information — your email address and name, when you sign in with Apple or Google.
- Photos you upload — a photo submitted for identification is sent to outside providers that analyse the image and search for matching products. It is not kept once the identification finishes.
- Photos of items you save — if you save an item, a smaller copy of its photo is stored so it can be shown on your Saved page. It is private: only you can see it, and only while you are signed in. It is deleted when you delete the item, the folder it is in, or your account.
- Saved items — the clothing items you choose to save, stored against your account.
- Your country — worked out from your internet connection, to show shops and prices for where you are. It is saved with items you save.
- Notification code— if you turn on notifications in the iPhone app, a code that lets notifications reach your phone. For “your item has been identified” it is used for that one identification and not kept. For price-drop alerts it is stored with your account until you turn them off, sign out on that phone, or delete your account.
How your data is used
- To identify clothing items from the photos you upload.
- To save and show the items you have saved.
- To sign you in securely.
- To send the notifications you turn on. For price-drop alerts, the shop pages of items you have saved are checked once a day.
Your data is never sold.
Services the app relies on
Wearabouts uses a small number of outside providers to work. They handle:
- signing you in and managing your account
- storing your saved items and their photos
- analysing an uploaded photo, which is how an item is identified
- searching for matching products, which is how shopping links are found
- hosting the app itself
- delivering notifications to your phone
A photo you upload is shared with the providers that analyse and search it, for as long as the identification takes. These providers act on behalf of Wearabouts and are not permitted to sell your data or use it for their own purposes.
Data retention
Uploaded photos are processed as they arrive and are not stored once identification is complete, unless you save the item. A saved item keeps a smaller copy of its photo, stored privately and visible only to you, until you delete the item, its folder or your account. Identification results, which do not include your photo, are kept for up to an hour so they can still be delivered if you leave the app before they are ready, and are then deleted automatically. Saved items are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Account information is kept until you delete your account, which you can do at any time from within the app.
Your Rights
You can delete your saved items at any time within the app. You can also delete your account and everything saved to it from Account, reachable from the menu under your profile picture. Deleting your account removes your saved items, your folders and your saved photos, and cannot be undone.
